Waldrons is one of the Black Country’s largest and longest established legal practices, with several offices across the region. Like many solicitors, Waldrons depend on several server based applications, including running a case management system (in their case Partner) a dictation system (Big Hand) and others (e.g. Microsoft Exchange email). As a growing practice maintaining high Lexcel practice management standards, Waldrons need to be sure that, if they fail, their crucial IT systems can be restored comprehensively within hours, rather than days or weeks.

IT equipment does need upgrading after several years and in 2008 Waldrons received a quote from a Legal Software IT supplier to implement a major systems upgrade which would include meeting better disaster recovery requirements. The partners turned to PSL for an honest appraisal. After only a few days’ consultancy it became clear that we could put in place a more efficient backup solution at much lower cost. We could also make their servers simpler, more energy-efficient and scalable, by using ‘virtualisation’ technology and would re-use some the existing equipment rather than replace it all.

While Waldrons thought they were backing up adequately, we found that, had their servers seriously failed, they would have almost certainly lost revenue from a protracted recovery. With a PSL backup system onsite and our ongoing support, Waldrons’ no longer worry about IT holding up business. Complementing the new recovery system, the previously array of inefficient servers now run off one, ‘virtualised’, server environment, which is a better platform for future practice growth.
